Is it cheaper to move yourself or hire a moving company?

When you ask this question, you have to ask yourself how much your time is worth? Also, if you do not have the experience or equipment to move heavy objects, you could risk injuring yourself. That can get expensive quickly. When it comes to Houston movers, cheap is not always the best option. You want a company that is reliable and with the professional background to make the move as easy on you as possible. That is what Movers Guys is here to do.

How much are local movers?

How much your move will cost depends on how many items you have and the time that it will take. The average apartment move takes less than five hours. Movers Guys offers competitive rates and professional service.

One of the first questions that many people have is why they should choose us for their move. You always have the option of moving yourself, and might be wondering, is it worth it to get movers? Moving by yourself is a hassle and takes time away from other things that you could be doing. Also, if you do not have experience and the right tools, you chance your belongings being broken in the process. Moving is stressful, and hiring a professional moving company in Houston, TX, allows you to focus on what you need to be doing first, enjoying your new place.

Do you do anything to protect my walls and floors?

Prior to our arrival, you should take precautions to protect your floor and walls. Although Movers Guys do our best to avoid damaging walls and floors, mishaps can occur. It is your responsibility to protect your walls and floors from becoming damaged during the move. You might consider laying down a thick protective covering on hardwood floors or placing a piece of cardboard on walls in the path of the move.

What is your liability for damage to my belongings?

General household good carriers have a liability of $0.60 per pound of articles. You can purchase increased liability that will raise this liability to $1.00 per pound of articles for an additional $50 fee. This is not insurance, and you must sign a contract prior to your move for this to be in effect. A 50-pound television would be reimbursed at $30 without the additional liability and $50 with the increased protection package.

How do you protect furniture?

We use shrinkwrap to protect upholstered furniture, and we use moving pads and blankets for other furniture. We do not charge extra for these services. However, we do not provide mattress bags or coverings. We can shrinkwrap mattresses and box springs for an additional $10. If you wish to provide a mattress covering, we will be happy to put it on for you at no extra charge.

Under what conditions can you refuse to provide services?

Although it rarely happens, Movers Guys have the right to refuse service if the conditions are not safe, sanitary, or organized and clean. Examples of such situations include hoarding, bed bugs, cockroaches, rat and mice feces, and other similar scenarios.

What size are your trucks?

We have 24-foot trucks, which are comparable to your standard UHaul.

How far in advance should you schedule movers?

The best answer to this is as soon as you know the date that you will be moving. Schedules might be limited during peak seasons, such as fall and spring when students are moving. The sooner you call, the sooner you can be assured that you have a spot.

What about meals and breaks for the moving crew?

In general, no breaks or meals will be provided for jobs that take less than five hours. For longer jobs, the clock will be stopped for meals and breaks, as determined by the crew supervisor. If the crew makes a 15-minute stop for fuel or a short break, the clock generally will not be stopped, as these are considered part of a normal working day.

Is a deposit required?

No deposit is required for local moves. However, if your move is out of town or out of state, we do require a deposit the day before your move.

How can I pay for services?

When we arrive, we ask for payment for the first two-hour minimum. We take Mastercard, Visa, American Express, or cash. The cardholder must be present if you are paying by credit card. We are sorry, but we do not accept checks of any type.

When must I pay for moving services?

You must pay for services on the day of the move. You can pay the crew supervisor using one of the approved payment methods.

What if I must cancel?

For a full refund of your deposit, you must cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled move. Some restrictions might apply to those who have taken advantage of special promotions. Any items provided to you before the move that are not returned will be deducted from the deposit.

How are your services charged?

Movers Guys charges by the hour. You can hire us for as long as you wish. The time begins when the crew arrives, and you sign them in. The time ends when you sign them out, which is usually after the last piece of furniture is unloaded or assembled in your new home.

How much should I tip moving guys?

Tipping is not required but it is greatly appreciated. Our crews work hard to make sure that everything arrives safely and that you have a hassle-free moving experience.

Should you provide food for movers?

Our movers do not expect for you to provide food while they are on the job. If they need a meal break, they will take advantage of a local restaurant. You have enough on your mind during this time.

What is your policy for inclement weather?

Our trucks are enclosed, and we have ways to keep your items dry. If you decide to move, we will still move you as scheduled. The only exception is in cases of severe flooding or severe storms.

How long will the move take?

The average move takes between 2-4 hours, but there are exceptions.

What do you mean by “arrival time”?

The arrival time means the time when you can expect to see our crews pull up to your home.

What is the “window of arrival”?

Movers Guys completes between two and three moves per day. Although we are good at estimating how long a job will take us, sometimes, there are unforeseen circumstances that can cause a slight delay. That is why we provide a window of time when you can expect us. Our crew will contact you at least 30 minutes before we arrive to let you know that we are on the way.

How long will it take to move my belongings?

Every move is different, and you have complete control over how long you need us and your budget. Our crew leader will work with you to develop a plan that works for you.

Can you pack my items?

Yes, we are full-service movers and can pack your items. However, we cannot pack on the day of the move. You must contact us to schedule packing on a separate day prior to the actual move.

Can you provide boxes and moving supplies?

We have a full line of boxes and supplies to help you get started on your moving journey. Simply call our office, and we can help you out.

Can Movers Guys disassemble and reassemble my furniture for me?

Our crews have basic tools for disassembling and reassembling furniture. However, if your pieces require special tools, we cannot provide those services.

Can I ride along in your truck with you?

Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone to ride in our vehicles except our crew. Please make sure that you have transportation ahead of time.

Can you reconnect my refrigerator, washer, and dryer?

Unfortunately, we cannot provide these services. You require someone who specializes in appliance hookups and installation. In addition, we will not unhook your appliances and prepare them for the move. You are responsible for securing washer drums for front-loading washers. We will not remove doors and waterlines either. It is suggested that you contact a professional who is qualified to prepare your appliances and install them at your new home.

Can you move my appliances?

We can move your appliances at no extra charge. However, we cannot unhook them or hook them up at your destination. You must call a qualified plumber, electrician, or appliance installation specialist for these services prior to the move.

Can you move my piano?

We can move basic upright pianos only. We charge an additional $75 fee, with some restrictions. The move must be first-floor to first-floor. We cannot move grand pianos or larger player-type pianos.

I have a gun safe, can you move it?

We can move gun safes for an additional $75 fee. It must be a first-floor to first-floor move. We cannot move a gun safe over 500 pounds. We must have a 3-man crew available if any stairs are involved at all, including exterior steps getting into and out of the house.

Can you move my pool table for me?

Yes, of course we can move pool tables.

Do I need to empty my dresser drawers and refrigerator before the move?

Should you empty drawers when moving is one of the most common questions that we get. The answer is, yes, you will need to remove everything from your refrigerator and empty the drawers of your other furniture. There is no way to secure items inside of your refrigerator without breakage and spillage. It also adds extra weight. Moving your furniture full could damage the piece, so this must be done ahead of time by you.

What items will Movers Guys not move?

Movers Guys cannot move the following items under any circumstance:
– Firearms, loaded or unloaded.
– Flammable, hazardous, or toxic materials, including paint cans, propane bottles, gas cans, pesticides, automotive products, household cleaners, etc.
– Power equipment that still has oil or gas in it.
– Any other items deemed dangerous or hazardous by the crew supervisor.

If you do not inform us of the presence of any of these materials, you will be fully responsible for any spills or damage that occurs to the truck or anywhere else. You will be responsible for paying for any damage and costs related to the cleanup, replacement, or repair of any items that are affected by the spill and cleanup process.

Can I schedule packing and moving in a single day?

It is recommended that for most moves you schedule packing and moving on different days.

Is it cheaper to hire movers during the week?

The price of your move depends on many factors other than the day of the week. It is recommended that you call our office to receive the latest pricing and get an estimate for your move.

Is there anything that I can do to help the movers?

What to do to prepare for movers is a question that everyone wants to know. The best thing that you can do to help us is to be prepared. Here are a few tips:
– Have any loose items boxed and sealed.
– Disassemble any furniture or anything that can be broken down, if possible.
– Empty any drawers or nightstands of items that can shift or break, and box them up.
– Empty any refrigerators or freezers.
– Empty drawers of all clothing items.
– Call someone to have all appliances disconnected and secured before we arrive.
– Make sure you will be there and ready when we arrive.

Please be aware that we cannot break down or disassemble cribs under any circumstances.

What should you not pack when moving?

It is always a good idea to think about what you will need on the trip and as soon as you arrive at your new home. Many people pack a separate bag or box with important documents, toiletries, any clothing that will be needed first, baby supplies, pet items, medications, etc. Pretend that you are packing for a trip and have everything where you can find it easily.
